Cloves (Caryophylli flos) are the dried and strongly scented flower buds of the clove tree. They originated from a small group of islands in Indonesia called the Moluccas. Today, they are grown cloves all over the world. Cloves smell extremely aromatic-spicy and are used in all kinds of dishes, especially those that are difficult to digest, such as cabbage or game dishes. At Christmas time, cloves traditionally belong in just about all gingerbread and punch recipes.
