Turmeric
Turmeric is a species of plant within the ginger family. It is a herbaceous plant with an underground shoot that is also called yellow saffron. The root tuber has a yellow colour and a spicy hot aroma. In India, turmeric has been known for over 4000 years and is one of the most important spices. Besides its use in the kitchen, as an important ingredient in curry, turmeric has a firm place in Ayurveda teachings as a hot spice.
