Soy (from the Jap. shoyu) is a member of the papilionaceous family and belongs to the legume family. The soy plant originally comes from Japan and Korea, but has also been thriving in Europe for some years. Soy was already planted in Japan 5000 years ago and is an important component of the vegetarian and vegan diet. Soy chunks and soy granules are great for vegetarian bolognese sauces or stir-fry dishes.
