Lupins are descended from the papilionaceous family and belong to the legume family (Fabaceae or Leguminosae). They are related to beans, peanuts and peas. Lupine seeds are derived from the sweet lupine plant and are a nutrient-rich alternative to soy. Lupine seeds were already used as a staple food by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. Nowadays, however, it is mainly cultivated in Central Europe. Lupine seeds can be excellently processed into flour and are therefore ideally suited as a cereal flour alternative - thus, of course, super suitable for people suffering from gluten intolerance...
